Should You Conduct a Background Check on Contract Candidates?

By Debbie Fledderjohann, Top Echelon Contracting President

Q. Should you conduct a background check on contract candidates?

A. The answer is yes.  This is an important step in the contract staffing process.  In fact, more and more client companies insist that recruiters conduct a thorough background check – and quite often a drug screening – before a candidate starts a contract assignment.  There can be a variety of repercussions if you place a candidate on a contract assignment and the proverbial skeletons in their closet – such as a criminal record or other red flags – were not discovered because a background check was not conducted.  You could lose your contract placement and your professional reputation will suffer irreparable damage.
